Product Description

100% CAGE FREE CIVET The Luwak (Paradoxurushermaphroditus) denizen of the coffee (kopi) plantations of Sumatra, eats only the ripest coffee cherries. Unable to digest the coffee beans, the Luwak graciously deposits them on the jungle floor where they are eagerly collected by the locals. The stomach acids and enzymatic action involved in this unique fermentation process produces the beans for the world's rarest coffee beverage. "The secret of this delicious blend," enthuses the Indonesia Tourism Promotion Board, "lies in the bean selection, which is performed by a luwak, a species of civet cat endemic to Java. The luwak will eat only the choicest, most perfectly matured beans which it then excretes, partially digested, a few hours later. Plantation workers then retrieve the beans from the ground, ready for immediate roasting." Kopi luwak began showing up in North America during the 1990s at the height of the Starbucks-inspired gourmet coffee craze. It has been sold in the U.S. for up to $600 per pound and can fetch as much as $30 for a single brewed cup in some parts of the world. Coffee connoisseurs explain what makes kopi luwak worth the exorbitant price: The aroma is rich and strong, and the coffee is incredibly full bodied, almost syrupy. It's with a hint of chocolate, and lingers on the tongue with a long, clean aftertaste. It's definitely one of the most interesting and unusual cups I've ever had. Lavanta Coffee Roasters is a 2nd generation coffee company focusing on Specialty Coffees. Started by an immigrant who worked extremely hard to earn his citizenship.Lavanta now focuses on giving back to it's origin farmers by offering Direct Trade, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance & Organic coffees as well as puts an extra emphasis on sourcing from women coffee farmers. 5The Smoothest Coffee and Incredible Taste
By Divitom
I have purchased this once a year for the last 3 years and have enjoyed every cup. EXPENSIVE but if you're a coffee drinker you won't believe your taste buds. Simply the best coffee.

1very disappointed
By mark
I tried this coffee for the first time and it was nothing special. I ordered whole bean and they sent me ground. I'm suspicious that this was even the real thing because it wasn't at all like the description. I'm very disappointed to say the least and would never get this coffee again.

Please help Civets who are suffering for coffee.

Animal Poop Coffee Really!!! Can you imagine buying coffee beans that have been eaten and excreted by animals? Most people would never imagine that such a product exists, but it does—and Amazon.com is selling it! To make kopi luwak coffee, Asian palm civets are snatched from their homes in the wild and imprisoned alone in tiny, barren cages. They're deprived of everything that is natural and important to them, including freedom, exercise, space, and even real food!

Please leave comments about this cruelly produced coffee on Amazon.com. Let the world know about these lonely civets, who lose their fur from lack of nutrition and turn in circles as they go insane from being forced to spend years behind bars. :-(

1Like a cup of brown water
By C. Ruis
I've been very happy with Coffee Bean Direct, which is why I'm so disappointed by the poor quality of this blend, which I only bought because my usual blend (Nicaraguan Shade-grown) was out of stock. Upon opening the bag, there was hardly any aroma at all, and the taste is bland. I've had other brands of Sumatra, which is normally a stronger coffee, but this was just awful... like the brown water that diners try to pass off as coffee.

4good coffee
By J. Barr
I mistakenly ordered "ground" coffee when I intended to order beans. This is a good, full bodied coffee, but does not have the really dark "French Roast" taste that I prefer. If this meets your taste, this is an excellent coffee bargain. Shipment was fast and accurate.

5Great product deal!
By ThomasFoley
Well, firstly, I have to confess, I am a caffeine based life form, particularly in the mornings. Dawn without a quadruple shot cappuccino, results, if not in suicidal tendencies, at least in severe existential un oui.
But, dear reader, this Italian espresso is simply amazing! As a devout Peats coffee disciple, (I live about a mile from the original shrine), I prefer my coffee well roasted and strong. You know, like Golden Retriever bouncy strong, increase staff productivity strong, is he always like that? kind-of strong. Anyway, this stuff delivers in the well roasted, nicely oily, prescription level strong categories, and has a fantastically addictive flavor, all for less than $8 per pound delivered. My calculations indicate replacing all other coffee consumption with this value product, I can afford a new Southern California beach home in about 8 to 10 months! (your results may differ based on consumption). Great product, great deal.

Product Description

This Sulawesi Toraja "White Eagle" Semi Washed Grade 1 coffee is the extremely rare coffee of the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. In one of the most remote coffee growing areas anywhere in the world, far in the interior of Toraja, the most exclusive of all Toraja coffees "WHITE EAGLE" is grown. The coffee is grown by the oldest and original Toraja trees which can only be found here and in some remote and original areas in Ethiopia. Many of these trees are original and date back more than 250 years and therefore well before the Dutch landed on the island. The coffee trees are fully shaded, not by shade trees, but by virgin jungle. The "WHITE EAGLE" coffee is as sustainable as it can get! The beans are relatively small but have a unique flavor not found in any other Toraja coffee which is derived from newer variety plantings such as Linie-S and a new variety of Berg enDaal (Typica). Upon arrival at our facilities in Makassar the "WHITE EAGLE" is kept completely separate from all other coffees as the Crown Jewel of all Toraja Arabicas. Only 300 to 600 bags can be produced each crop year of this truly superb and outstanding coffee. Many coffee buyers from all over the world are stunned by its exquisite beauty and coffee culture in full harmony with nature. Once high on mountain slopes, one can admire the terraced rice patios up to 6,000 ft high in between coffee trees and virgin jungle all the way down the valley to 1,000 ft. In our opinion this is the one of the most beautiful coffee growing areas one can find anywhere in the world. Cup Characteristics: This Arabica Sulawesi Toraja White Eagle coffee is from the Island of Sulawesi, Indonesia and cups as an Earthy, mouth-filling, supple coffee with pronounced aromatics of tobacco and exotic earth notes. Sturdy, pronounced but not overbearing body. Extraordinarily smooth with big body, low acidity and balanced well.

5Wonderful, and a bargain, too
By M Fishman
This is exceptional coffee, especially considering the price. Sulawesi coffee has a special flavor note which I cannot describe, but find very satisfying. This particular product was surprisingly unfragrant, even when hand ground, but the coffee bloomed nicely, showing freshness, and the taste in the cup was excellent.I grind it in a hand grinder to a little finer than drip, use about 17 grams for a 10 ounce cup made with a Melita cone, and drink it black, no sugar.

5Great coffee, simply put.
By David
This coffee is amazing. All you PETA people suck! There RODENTS! Ill drink these wonderful poop berries all day long and won't loose a bit of sleep doing it. Take your "Nobel efforts" and put them to use over something that actually matters like saving little African babies with no food and no parents. PETA is nothing but a bunch of rich house wives who have nothing better to do with there time then write stupid comments on amazon thinking there some how making the world a better place. If there's money to be made, then there will always be some one there to make it. If it wasn't this guy selling it, it would be someone else so leave this entrepreneur do what entrepreneurs do, make a living so his wife can sit at home all day making stupid comments like the ones I've seen above. By the way, did I mention this coffee is AMAZING!

1This coffee comes from the POOP of a tortured ANIMAL.
By RominaV
I rated this one star, but I wish I could rate it -1,000 stars.
DO NOT buy this product. THE LABEL IS MISLEADING, as the coffee beans come from animals that have been stolen out of the wild and forced into miserable lives. In fact they eventually go insane and loose all of their hair.

This is a novelty product and if you are an organic/natural/healthy-lifestyle kind of person or care about animals please do some research about this.

We are trying to have Amazon stop selling this coffee.

Product Description

Luwak coffee (or kopi luwak in Indonesian) is the rarest gourmet coffee in the world that originates from Indonesia. It is made of the sweetest coffee beans that have gone through a civet's digestive tract. Our coffee beans are from civets that are wild and free to roam around in the wilderness. They feed from coffee trees that naturally grow in the area. This Bali Kintamani luwak coffee comes from the Kintamani highlands, which is the northern mountainous region of Bali, Indonesia. These highlands sit on a large volcanic plateau where pesticides are prohibited and local farmers use only organic fertilizers. This exotic island produces only a small amount of coffee beans. They are grown at around 1,300-1,700 meters (4,200-5,500 feet) above sea level. Only the best coffee beans are grown at such high altitudes. Bali Kintamani luwak coffee has a light to medium body with light acidity. Its taste is smooth and has distinct raspberry, brandy, mint, chocolate and cedar-like flavors.

5Amazing wild luwak coffee from beautiful island of Bali!
By Ju y. Kim
This coffee exceeds my expectations! It's also awesome to know that the beans come from wild civet coffee plantations where pesticides are prohibited and local farmers only use organic fertilizers. It tastes very smooth and has light acidity. Although there are a lot of negative reviews from PETA supporters here, I read the description of the coffee first before I bought it and it says (this seller) Luwak Star gets their coffee from plantations that let the civets run wild. Civets are known to have very good sense of smell. They climb the coffee trees to pick the best, ripest, sweetest, reddest coffee cherries to eat. This animal can definitely pick the best coffee cherries because these beans sure taste great!

5Spoiled co workers
By Matt
I did not know that there is different types of kopi luwak coffee and they all taste great. I brought some of this up to work for my co workers to try. I did not tell them what it is but they all asked me what type of coffee it was. The taste was amazing and the coffee is extremely smooth compared to their gas station coffee that they normally get. And now they want me to bring some in every day! talk about spoiled! This coffee isnt just great to drink but it can also be a great conversation starter as well. Im just glad my work only has 6 people!

By Jeffrey Rivera
Fast shipping, great product! I was optimistic at first but, wow this is the best and most mellow coffee I've ever tasted. Can't describe it but, once you taste this coffee you'll be hooked. You have been warned. All jokes aside, tasting this coffee should be on everybody's bucket list.

4 ounces/113 gram package of - - 100% PURE, WILD & ORGANIC MEDIUM ROASTED ROBUSTA WHOLE BEAN, NATURALLY GATHERED WILD Asian Palm CIVET CAT / KOPI LUWAK Civet Coffee BEANS-- We package in a 4 oz hermetically sealed aluminum foil bag to ensure prolonged freshness -- Where do the Coffee Beans Come From? Nestled in the ancient rice terraces of the Cordillera Mountain range in the Province of Ifugao in North Luzon, Philippines, a Conservation Project is home to wild civets who eat the ripest beans off the organic, shade-grown, rain-forest coffee plants. A 24 hectare civet rescue area of rain-forest within the 40-hectare Julia Campbell memorial park has been established to provide the opportunity for park caretakers and coffee farmers to rescue civets from the black market. The wild civets are then released into the fence-free reserve where they freely dine on as much shade-grown coffee as they like. The beans pass through the civets undigested, but enzymes in the civets' stomachs break down the proteins of the beans resulting in an incredibly smooth, luxurious gourmet coffee. Why Buy From Bantai Civet Coffee? -- 100%PURE, WILD & ORGANIC civet coffee beans! The parks coffee growers encourage local farmers to switch back to traditional organic farming methods. Compost is freely provided to any interested farmers of any crop. NO CHEMICALS ARE USED AT ANYTIME or even in the same drainage of any fields within the Julia Campbell Memorial Agro-Forestry Park. All coffee is SHADE GROWN and Bi-Cropped. This ensures a robust diversity of plants, insects and other crucial elements to a healthy ecosystem. 5Diligent research = good cup of coffee
By PB Coffee Lover
I wanted tp try Kopi Luwak but saw all the negative comments about it. I made diligent research about this particular brand and found our that these coffee beans are not from caged animals. The source's website is actually a rescue preservation area in the Philippines "Special measures have been taken to ensure the survival and healthy existence of the civet population within The Julia Campbell Agro-Forest Memorial Park.

A civet rescue area, a 24-hectare shaded coffee and forest area within the 40-hectare memorial park, has been established to provide the opportunity for park caretakers and coffee farmers to rescue civets from the black market and release them into this rescue area. The park caretakers then allow the civets to dine on as much coffee as they like in this shade-grown, rainforest-covered coffee orchard.

These farmers don’t mind allowing the animal to harvest their coffee crop because the civets leave behind extremely valuable and delicious coffee, which farmers then sell at a price that provides these proud people with a living and an incentive to preserve civets and their habitat. By ordering Bantai Civet Coffee, you too can contribute to the support of the Civet Conservation Project."

I tried it and it makes a good espresso cup, No acidity, very smooth coffee. According to the research of the University of Florida, Kopi Luwak is the cleanest coffee you can find because of the care that comes into its processing knowing that it was digested by the civet.

5DO YOUR RESEARCH. THIS IS NOT A BAD COFFEE GROWER
By Arfman
I just want to know if *any* of you people stating that this *particular* brand of coffee engages in animal cruelty have actually confirmed this through independent investigation. Caging civets is, of course, horrible. This type of coffee's genesis is from harvesting the excrement of wild civets living around coffee plantations. Is it far fetched there can be a legitimate grower that does exactly what it says? Why are you disparaging a company with no proof whatsoever. How about a featured article that talks about this coffee company from the Sierra Club? [...]

Quit slandering companies that are trying to do the right thing! FYI I have no affiliation with Amazon, Sierra Club or Any coffee growing plantation, distributor, etc. I work for an auto insurance company.

Product Description

1 pound/456 grams packaged as 4 individual (4 ounces/113 gram) packages 100% PURE ORGANIC MEDIUM ROASTED WHOLE, NATURALLY GATHERED from WILD Palm CIVET CAT KOPI LUWAK Civet Coffee BEANS-- We package a 4 oz hermetically sealed aluminium foil bag to ensure prolonged freshness -- Enjoy each package slowly instead of a big bag that can go stale - Where do the Coffee Beans Come From? Why Buy From Bantai Civet Coffee?-- 100%ORGANIC and WILD civet coffee beans! Any expansion of coffee growth is done with minimal impact and NO CLEAR CUTTING and NO MONO-CROPPING or NO ERADICATION of INDIGENOUS and ENDEMIC COFFEE PLANTS. - visit us at -- www.bantaicivetcoffee.com - THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING THIS SOCIALLY MINDED AND DELICIOUS PRODUCT - MARAMING SALAMAT PO!

1Not to my taste...
By Kai
OK, so maybe my palate is not that rarified but I really did try to like this coffee. It's just that this stuff tasted weak, so weak. I must admit I favor dark roast, so it could be that. I'm not gonna say this thing tasted like crap, no pun intended. But I don't care for this coffee, thank God! I was afraid this coffee would be so good that I would have to buy it from now on. In my opinion, there are better coffee out there than this one and less expensive too. But each one of us has individual taste, either you like it or you don't. And even though I think this coffee is not worth its price, you still should try it. Gotta taste the most expensive coffee in the world at least once in one's life.

The Best Coffee in The World

Five star for shipping, merchandise arrived in good condition, although the free bag in the picture is not what I received. It was OK, I still like the bag.
